The message from the Government on carbon reduction is clear; ‘Every new school building should be zero carbon from 2016’. Nearly every building in the UK is suitable for installing solar PV.
Schools consume a large amount of energy during the day, due to the ever increasing number of electrical appliances required. This puts you in a very good position to make the most from a solar PV system by using a large amount of the electricity generated directly on site, giving an even bigger saving.
The installation of solar PV system at a school not only saves energy and money, but also provides a visible statement, demonstrating to the wider community a clear commitment to environmental sustainability and development of student knowledge and activities beyond the core curriculum.
A recent Ofsted report shows that “pupils respond to practical activities relevant to their lives and future well-being. Schools have shown that focusing on sustainability can also reduce financial costs and contribute to what is often a striking improvement in pupil behaviour.” – Christine Gilbert, Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector, 2009.
Monitoring and Display
Each system Williams Renewables install is supplied with a monitoring device to observe the performance of the system. This can be integrated with the school’s server to be accessed from any computer with your intranet.
A webpage can be integrated into your school’s website to promote your green credentials and a display unit can be installed in the school reception, or any relevant location, to display your generation figures to visitors.
Williams Renewables can assist in gaining access to funding as we understand that budgets may not stretch to a non-core investment. We are pleased to be able to offer lease options as well as a fully funded solution for certain installations. Please see our Funding section for further details.
