Mapei UK’s recent installation of solar PV roof panels is now well underway and scheduled for completion early February 2014.
Based in Halesowen, West Midlands, the UK subsidiary of the world’s largest manufacturer of adhesives, sealants and chemical products for building’s, underwent a careful selection process for ethics and green production to help reduce costs and add to their constant and long-term support towards eco-sustainability.
Using Williams Renewables in partnership with Green Switch Solutions, who are passionate and experienced in Solar PV and renewable energy, work commenced on 3rd December 2013 with the installation of a 250kWp system.
The installation was introduced in order to help save on CO2 emissions, contribute to ISO 14001 continual improvement and other sustainability accreditations as well as save on energy costs by generating enough power to run electricity to contribute approximately 1/5th of Mapei UK’s total consumption using the sun’s energy. Anything outside the working hours will be fed back into the grid.
Lee Manford, Engineering Manager said: “We are members of the UK Green Building Council and it is vital for us to contribute towards an eco-friendly environment. The solar PV roof installation focuses on both our corporate philosophy and environmental friendly principles to be more energy efficient.”
According to DECC (Department of Energy & Climate Change) figures published 22nd November 2013, the installation at Mapei UK is in the top 20 largest commercial roof top mounted systems in the UK.
The roof installation comes just after the achievement of another sustainable milestone – all internal manufacturing and warehouse lighting at Halesowen has been upgraded to High Frequency energy efficient lighting with intelligent switching which was installed in December 2013.
